Castration destroys or removes the testicles of the male animal. Farmers castrate the animals for several reasons, but the primary one is to stop breeding. Often, uncastrated animals fight with one another, which can cause trouble for the farm.
The best time to castrate is while the animals are still a few days old. The operation is much easier and successful. Wounds heal faster as well.
Castrating requires at least two people. One will carry out the process while the other will help restrain the animal. Having all the needed tools will make things much more manageable. You can use knives, razor, or a scalpel, which is the most preferred method. It is the sharpest tool for cutting.
You can find more than a few choices of scalper here at The Grit. You can also find castrating kits, which comes with a stainless steel scalpel and carbon steel blades.
Another method is through the use of rubber rings. Castrate the animal with the tool called an elastrator. The rings are also useful for tail docking.
