The Cogent appears to be reminiscent of the old Incite design but with a handle shape and milling pattern that may seem familiar. However, this model's origins might not be crystal clear, but that's not an issue. The Cogent design stands on its own as one of CIVIVI's most exceptional and versatile pieces.

Intriguingly, the Cogent is one of the few knives in their lineup available with a partially serrated edge. While it might not win any beauty contests with this edge type, it excels in terms of functionality, especially when it comes to cutting fibrous materials like rope. A plain edge blade needs to be razor-sharp, but a section of serrations makes tasks like cutting rope a breeze.

Additionally, with the increasingly popular button lock and caged ceramic bearings, the Cogent offers outstanding performance at an attractive price point. It presents a compelling case to be your next knife purchase. Will it make the cut for you?

Budget button lock

I bought the Cogent to try another button lock. It works well. Quite a smooth action after the lock-stick went away. The ergos are good and it is a nice medium sized knife. Civivi micarta is okay; not Kizer quality but decent. I love the 14c28n steel; it is fine grained and the company does a good job with it. The serrations are excellent and should be easy to maintain given their size and shape. A good value blade that performs well.
